While our United States Supreme Court is too busy worrying about the rights of non-citizens, especially potential and actual terrorists in military custody, more Americans are being butchered.
The latest video taped execution-style murder is believed to be that of Army Spc. Keith Matthew Maupin, who was kidnapped back in April and had not been heard of since.
Well, it would seem we have now heard the last of this brave soldier. May justice swiftly find his cowardly murderers.
From MSNBC comes the following report:
U.S. military officials were investigating claims that a man seen being executed on a videotape is Army Spc. Keith Matthew Maupin, a U.S. soldier captured in Iraq on April 9, NBC News reported Monday.
Officials who have seen the videotaped execution say the tape is so “grainy” that it is not possible to make a positive identification of the victim because his face is not clearly visible.
The victim, who is shot multiple times in the head and body, is wearing what appears to be a U.S. Army uniform. The body is then seen being dumped into a shallow grave. A voice on the tape, speaking in Arabic, identifies the victim as Maupin.
U.S. military officials said, however, that without recovering a body, they cannot make any ruling that Maupin is dead and that his official status remains “captured.”
But Al-Jazeera television said early Tuesday that Iraqi militants killed Maupin because the U.S. government did not change its policy in Iraq, the Associated Press reported. The al-Jazeera report could not be immediately confirmed by U.S. officials.
Maupin was positively identified on an earlier hostage tape, released by his captors about a week after he was seized on April 9, when his fuel convoy was attacked just outside Baghdad. Maupin identified himself on that tape.
Army officials told NBC that the Maupin family had been briefed on the videotape, its claims and its contents.
What of the rights of our own victims of terror? Where is the outrage? Sadly, as usual, the outrage is muted and allies like Germany and France still play games with their obligations to NATO. I am confident that these things are just a few that will change relatively soon. Mark my words.
