The Dangerous Myth « Foehammer’s Anvil

There is an idea in the minds of many Westerners that the vast majority of Muslims are moderates and pose no threat. But can we really afford to believe that only a tiny majority of Islam composes this danger?

I heard Col. Oliver North in an interview yesterday on the Sean Hannity radio program come right out and give some estimates:

Active Al Qaeda = 50,000 (not 18,000 like the press wants us to think)

Active Al Qaeda support (Doctors, lawyers, clergy, etc. etc.)

200,000+

Now, that’s a quarter of a million strong that actively work for and with Al Qaeda.

Now for each of those quarter of a million you can easily estimate at least 1 additional “sympathizer” that will not turn them in, not cooperate with authorities and actively hates Westerners and believes the fatwas handed down from bin Laden.

And I’m being extremely generous with this illustration.

The odds are far more likely that for each of those persons active with Al Qaeda, you’re going to see at least 2 sympathizers — family or friends — and I’d bet it not unlikely that the number could reach 10 on the average easily and perhaps 50 at an estimated extreme.

So, do the math:

250,000 x 10 = 2,500,000 (+250,000 Al Qaeda) = 2.75 million Islamic radicals as an average estimate

250,000 x 50 = 12,500,000 (+250,000 Al Qaeda) = 12.75 million Islamic radicals at an extreme

Now, factor in even 1% of those being suicide bombers and look at what you have:

27,500 to 127,500!

During all of World War II, just look at the damage and death due to a fraction of that many Japanese suicide attackers - the Kamikaze:

120 US ships were sunk, with many more damaged

3,048 allied sailors were killed and another 6,025 wounded

Now, when you factor in that the jihad warriors of Al Qaeda are capable of carrying out killings with WMDs at some future point, then things really come into perspective.

This is no minority threat. Until Islam reforms, there will be generations upon generations of these global terrorists striking at Westerners, Americans, anyone that is not a Muslim, and even in some cases, against the tolerant, moderate Muslims that you believe exist in such vast numbers.

Al Qaeda and the Wahhabis are nothing less than a cancer, and they must be stamped out as quickly as possible, or the disease will kill rapidly and grow even faster than that.

And the truth is, I don’t even think my estimates above are close to correct: the “sympathizer” factor on the extreme side is probably not 50, but much more likely 5000. We are talking about 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide, of which, none have denounced the fatwas (religious mandates) set down by bin Laden after 9-11 that call for Muslims to kill all Americans as a duty to Allah.

But I think I’ve made my point. We don’t want to have people unable to sleep at night, do we? Do we?
