Iran Must Free Itself from Madness

It would be a tragedy to allow the Mullahs of Iran to pull the proud Persian people into an abyss. I can only hold out hope that civil war is still an outcome that we might see. The wise and resolute among the Iranians have long used the U.S. Constitution as a model for Hope, and perhaps they will come to understand that if they truly wish to emulate the United States and its history in any real way, they will have to be willing to FIGHT for the freedom they desire.

In the wake of Hamas’ victory, some thoughts….

I would put one point to you all that is quite simple in the wake of the efforts in Iraq by United States armed forces and the Bush administration — whatever Fate has in store, there was never any road that was not going to keep Hamas from attaining the popular vote of the Palestinians. This is actually working to our advantage, because just like it was in the 1930’s, when Hitler’s Nazi Party came to power in Germany, Americans reacted with lackluster denials of the obvious, and so it is today.

Shades of the Nazi Party

In a chillingly familiar turn-of-events, here’s world news you must be made aware of, from the AP:

RAMALLAH, West Bank - Hamas won a huge majority in parliamentary elections as Palestinian voters rejected the longtime rule of the Fatah Party, throwing the future of Mideast peacemaking into question, officials from both major parties said Thursday.

Palestinian leaders huddled to determine what role the Islamic militant group will play in governing the territories.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will ask Hamas to form the next government, with his defeated Fatah Party weighing whether to form a partnership or serve in the opposition.

Bin Laden Offers a False Truce

From the AP come details of the latest taped threats from Osama Bin Laden:

By LEE KEATH
Associated Press Writer

CAIRO, Egypt

Al-Jazeera on Thursday aired an audiotape purportedly from Osama bin Laden, who says al-Qaida is making preparations for attacks in the United States but offering a truce “with fair conditions.”

The tape’s release came days after a U.S. airstrike in Pakistan that was targeting bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, and reportedly killed four leading al-Qaida figures, including possibly al-Zawahri’s son-in-law. There was no mention of the attack on the segments that were broadcast.

Iran’s Nukes, Europe’s Follies

From a recent New York Post:

January 17, 2006 — TREATING Iran’s alleged nuclear ambition as a hot potato, the European trio of Britain, Germany and France has decided to pass it on to the International Atomic Energy Agency and thence to the United Nations’ Security Council. “Our talks with Iran have reached a dead end,” says Germany’s new Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

In truth, however, the trio’s three-year talks with Iran started at a dead end.
