I just wanted to take a moment to affirm my continued deepest respect for the United States Armed Forces, and I wish our men and women in uniform present, past and future all possible good fortune and success. To those that have made the ultimate sacrifice, however, words do not suffice.
Let us hope that when we are in need of them most in what I view as a growingly aggitated conflict, we will always remember their sacrifices and pay them the homage they are rightly due. America has not always been kind to its soldiers, and that is a mark on our history that we should not forget. If “old men” in Washington point the military at the wrong targets or keep them in harm’s way for the wrong reasons, that is not the fault of a military which is at the command of the President: it is the fault of those “old men” in Washington.
I personally believe that there’s a fight worth fighting that isn’t being tackled right now by our President, but one can only hope that wiser minds and stronger hearts will prevail in the next few months and years. I know that the U.S. Armed Forces will rise to the challenge and overcome it when that time comes.
