Drew,

I'm not going to argue with someone that's seeking equivalence between Christianity and Islam. Islam is a fabrication. Christianity is not.

Christ was a gentle soul.

Muhammad was a villain.

Therein is the lesson for today.

As for your claim that Islam underwent an "Enlightenment", that is categorically wrong. The Arab world might have had an age of free thought, but it was in spite of Islam, certainly not because of it. The texts of the Qur'an and the Hadith and all the Islamic religious works have only gotten more hateful and more fascist as time has worn on, not the opposite. Any parts of the Middle East that even resemble Western thinking are either under the reign of secularists like in Turkey or formerly Communist dictators in Egypt and NOT Islamic theocracy.

You have a great deal to learn about the Muslim mind and the Islamic religion. All in good time.

The only Muslims that betray their religion are the ones that turn away from it, and those I applaud for their bravery and higher thinking.

there are 1.3 billion Muslims on the planet. If they were all trying to kill you, you would be dead. There certainly are many militant muslims in the world and I am not apologizing for them. I am just reminding you that all muslims, just like all christian, are not the same.
Actually yes, Islam did have an enlightenment. In fact, for most of the history of the Islamic World it was much more enlightened than the Christian West. Only within the last 500 years (out of 1500 years since Muhammad) have things changed. The Spanish Empire was one of the first major western empires. While they were Catholic at the time, that was a recent change from the overwhelmingly Muslim influence from North Africa.
Yes it is 2007 and in the Middle East, an area that has been destroyed by years of colonialism, much like Africa, many Muslims are angry and betraying their religion. You can no more call them good muslims than you can call Hitler a good Christian. Remember, at the time of the Holocaust it was Catholic Doctrine and widely accepted that Jews would always hold the blame for the death of Christ. That doesn't mean all Christians are to blame. Al-Qaeda is a reasonable target for your anger, not all Muslims.

The link wasn't as obvious as I should have liked. It is very easy to see now.

The problem is that Flash movie auto-starts and I've yet to figure out a way to code that out, so I have to place it on another page separate from the article in order to avoid having it load when people first load the Anvil homepage.

This is something I won't have to deal with once I place a different version on YouTube, but Flash does have its advantages (like much smaller file size/loading time).

Oh I'm so much looking forward to the woman chapter, should be a hoot...[/quote]

Yes, that's going to be one heckuva follow-up piece. I can't say I'm looking forward to putting it together, but there will undoubtedly be much to work with when I do.

@ Bill:

All extremely valid points. As much as I hate having to edit and re-edit this work, I know that it is a matter of doing things right, and when it comes to that I hopefully don't miss the mark by too much.

The music is something I've thought on and you're right -- if there ever was an excuse they might use, as they did recently to the infamous atheist, YouTube will yank my video because of "copyright issues". I think I can trip them up on that though. I have just left a message on a friend's answering service and the solution might very well be composed for me.

Though I'm with you in theory on the "Wow" effects, I also want to make the video able to grab the attention of "the masses" and as such, I did things intentionally to take some of the "pain" out of reading all those verses and to maintain the attention of the broad array of readers I hope to reach. Entertainment value is a consideration, even when we're dealing with the cult of Islam. I think I was pretty subtle for something that lasts over 17 minutes in length. It's not like I'm using voice-overs and Bugs Bunny sound effects (though I was tempted at a couple of points, I have to admit). LOL.

As for the accusers that will try to say I'm taking things out of context, that is exactly why so many verses are included. In fact, many of the verses are one after the other in groups of 2-6 and the entire range of verses in the video (and all the ones I will make in the future) runs sequentially with only 1 exception (3:19). Beyond that I have already considered what you recommend, and you are right.

I will take it one step further though -- because of the application that I use, I can expand on this video with time and labor at almost every point -- and that means I could even go so far as to show multiple translations of any verse that comes under fire.

The translation I have chosen to use is highly regarded though, and as most translations go, it is actually quite tame in its language. If Muslim scholars contest it, I would probably start doing some accusing of my own -- for instance, I'd ask them why they are attempting to reconstruct the English translation to hide the truth of what's actually written in the Qur'an.

Again, thanks for your very reasoned suggestions. They will be put to good use.
