The Trouble with Islam

This British gentleman is so wise, he deserves posting here this morning. Have a listen (with thanks to Gramfan for pointing the way):

Bravo, sir! There might be hope for Europe yet — if people actually heed this man’s words.

It does seem that way from the outside. At least, that’s the only explanation that would make some sort of sense. But I guess I can’t imagine people being afraid because they don’t seem that way or admit to it. But then of course if they are terrified, they are not going to admit it. I wish someone, somewhere, would be open about it. Because truly none of this makes sense.

I guess my confusion is also because so many of these people are so hateful toward Christianity in particular. If they were just kind of neutral it would makes sense. But the way one religion (which is harmless) is hated and the one that *should* be hated is protected is just… baffling.

Whatever the problem is, I wish these people would stand up for themselves. I’ve never been to Europe (excpt for Spain 10 years ago) and it seems by the time I make it there it will be unrecognizable. If this continues, imagine what beauty and culture and history will be lost. It’s so sad.

@Mo: It’s called fear. Much of the non-Islamic world is afraid to say or do anything. It’s so much easier to ignore the problem. History is repeating itself almost exactly — 1938 all over again.

For leaving a culture that is empty of any kind of foundational beliefs (other than that there aren’t any). It’s easy then for a religion like Islam to take hold.

Please note that I am not saying I am blaming secularism entirely. Islam doesn’t care if a nation has a religious foundation or none at all, all it cares about is taking over. I’m just saying there’s an empty hole there where Christianity used to be.

I would actually have assumed that a secular Europe would be fighting tooth and nail against ANY religion, especially one as violent and oppressive as Islam. Yet that has not happened at all. This puzzles me.

I’ve seen what secularism has done to Europe? Blaming secularism? for what exactly?

I hereby retract my offer to shack up with this fellow on a deserted island and wish to exercise my feminine prerogative to change my mind regarding Brad Pitt. Whilst I still fully agree with his views on Islam, I’m not sure I’d get on too well with an agnostic/atheist in the long run (for pretty much the same reasons you’ve outlined above, FH). I’ve seen what secularism has done to Europe, and I don’t like it.

In the words of Mark Steyn in ‘America Alone’ (terribly paraphrased). Have John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ playing in your head and think of your typical French man/woman.

Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try. Check.

Imagine all the people living for the day. Check

Nothing to kill or die for; and no religion too. Check

And yet ‘All the people living life in peace’ seems to have eluded those poor, atheist Europeans.

Brad Pitt? No, I actually have body hair, I’m taller, have a better jaw and I’m younger. More than that I dare not say. *chuckles*

I wanted to note for anyone reading this thread that more of Pat Condell’s videos may be found here. It will probably come as no surprise that he takes apart Christianity almost as brutally as he does Islam. It seems that agnostics and atheists are getting a lot of airplay in places like YouTube and LiveView and MySpace.

I’m not in agreement with people that want to take God out of the picture, but I’m also not in agreement with people that want to use God to control people or fill their coffers either. I suppose my best take on things is that I’m an intellectual who’s smart enough to know that Mankind could not possibly be the center of the Universe. A lot of smart folks thing otherwise. To those people I just say that I’m in better company with the likes of Einstein and Newton, so when you can find some people in history with those track records that support atheism, feel free to let me know. I’m curious.

That said, I can certainly see how Islam can create atheists, and I can also see how fundamentalist, non-thinking Christians and otherwise could also have the same adverse effect. But we must be very careful not to foolishly toss away the ideas of prophets like Jesus Christ just to make ourselves feel better about pissing on the Church. At the end of the day, the relationship any of us have with our Creator is our own business, and as the old saying goes: “There are no atheists in foxholes.”

I can cope with “press play”!That sounds easy enough.

FH if the world isn’t ready for you,,well they damn well should be!
There you are: an innovator, a seer of possiblities,a great writer, a visionary, a freedom fighter willing to take risks, and a friend.
Jeeez, what more does the world want?

(ps do you look like Brad Pitt? (just kidding!)

Well, if I podcast on the Anvil it won’t require anything fancy from readers/listeners. Just press play. If some are more technically savvy and wish to download my rants and spread them around, all the better.

The idea has been burning in the back of my brain for a few weeks now. Since competition is so tough for traffic, I very well may have to start coming up with even more ways to stand out from the pack, and since I’ve been told for years I should be in radio…the logical next step is podcasting.

But is the world ready for it?! I’m not so sure. :D
