@andy: LOL. Are you actually calling me a "religious fundamentalist"?

Condescending airs fail when you judge so quickly that you don't even get your facts straight.

It does seem that way from the outside. At least, that's the only explanation that would make some sort of sense. But I guess I can't imagine people being afraid because they don't seem that way or admit to it. But then of course if they are terrified, they are not going to admit it. I wish someone, somewhere, would be open about it. Because truly none of this makes sense.

I guess my confusion is also because so many of these people are so hateful toward Christianity in particular. If they were just kind of neutral it would makes sense. But the way one religion (which is harmless) is hated and the one that *should* be hated is protected is just... baffling.

Whatever the problem is, I wish these people would stand up for themselves. I've never been to Europe (excpt for Spain 10 years ago) and it seems by the time I make it there it will be unrecognizable. If this continues, imagine what beauty and culture and history will be lost. It's so sad.

@Mo: It's called fear. Much of the non-Islamic world is afraid to say or do anything. It's so much easier to ignore the problem. History is repeating itself almost exactly -- 1938 all over again.

For leaving a culture that is empty of any kind of foundational beliefs (other than that there aren't any). It's easy then for a religion like Islam to take hold.

Please note that I am not saying I am blaming secularism entirely. Islam doesn't care if a nation has a religious foundation or none at all, all it cares about is taking over. I'm just saying there's an empty hole there where Christianity used to be.

I would actually have assumed that a secular Europe would be fighting tooth and nail against ANY religion, especially one as violent and oppressive as Islam. Yet that has not happened at all. This puzzles me.

I hereby retract my offer to shack up with this fellow on a deserted island and wish to exercise my feminine prerogative to change my mind regarding Brad Pitt. Whilst I still fully agree with his views on Islam, I'm not sure I'd get on too well with an agnostic/atheist in the long run (for pretty much the same reasons you've outlined above, FH). I've seen what secularism has done to Europe, and I don't like it.

In the words of Mark Steyn in 'America Alone' (terribly paraphrased). Have John Lennon's 'Imagine' playing in your head and think of your typical French man/woman.

Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try. Check.

Imagine all the people living for the day. Check

Nothing to kill or die for; and no religion too. Check

And yet 'All the people living life in peace' seems to have eluded those poor, atheist Europeans.
