“The worst shooting in American history.”

This situation is still unfolding. So far details are slim, but at least one person has been killed on the Virginia Tech campus and over a half-dozen injured. The two shootings occurred roughly two hours apart and may be related. No descriptions of the shooters have been given other than them being male.

A news conference at Virginia Tech is to be held around noon EST.

UPDATE: Now a description of at least one gunmen has come in. A heavily armed male with possibly body armor and bandoleers of ammo across his chest was seen walking through the campus at the time of the shootings. There are currently at least 17 people with gunshot wounds in the local hospitals.

UPDATE: Now victims reported has increased to 21 with more than 1 fatality. Comment by a Virginia Tech representative at the currently ongoing news conference described “multiple fatalities”. The gunman claimed earlier by police to be in custody, has now been reported to have been shot dead by police when they responded to the second shooting. Whether or not he also was the shooter in the first incident is unclear. Police are currently searching for a possible second shooter.

UPDATE: Police chief on campus says at least 20 dead. One shooter in multiple locations seems to be the most likely scenario now.

RED FLAG: First gunman description alluding to race: “Young Asian-looking man”. I’m following this closely now, of course. The great concern is what this shooter’s motivation was, what his nation of origin was and if he was a Muslim or not.
