I almost missed the fact that this killer is a Muslim, so I want to make sure you are aware of it. Was this incident just “road rage” on a grand scale or was it Sudden Jihad Syndrome with a vehicle again, reminiscent of the van assault incident at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill on March 3, 2006?

The young man accused of fatally dragging a Fort Lauderdale woman and then trying to flee the country was arraigned Tuesday night in a New York court, protesting his innocence.
Abdelaziz Hamze, 24, appeared before Queens Criminal Court Judge Gene Lopez on Tuesday night, at one point blurting out, ”I didn’t do it,” said Kevin Ryan, a spokesman for the Queens district attorney.
And, on cue, we have the trademark “devout Muslim” description coming from friends and family of the suspect:
”He was very cooperative,” said Lucille Cirillo, spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Immediate family members couldn’t be reached for comment. But other relatives described Hamze as a devout Muslim who paid the bills as an electronics retailer.
Hamze moved to South Florida from Lebanon in 1998 or 1999, one relative said.
In a family where education was a priority, Hamze took classes at Broward Community College, enrolling in 2000. He graduated with an associate of arts degree in 2003.
He then went to Florida Atlantic University, earning a bachelor’s in political science in the fall of 2004.
SOLD LAPTOPSFor work, Hamze sold electronics — mainly, laptops and radios — at flea markets around South Florida, relatives said. But religion remained paramount.
So much so that he prayed five days a week at a Dania Beach mosque on Griffin Road. Hamze also did charity work there, one relative said.
”He didn’t play golf or go to the gym or have hobbies like that,” Nezar Hamze said. “He spent a lot of time at the mosque.”
Yes, he spent enough time at the mosque to learn violent intent and the means to use it. Excuse me if I’m not put off my guard by someone spending “a lot of time at the mosque”; I’ve learned that this is more often a reason to keep a damn close eye on someone.
Now, can we please start monitoring mosques in the United States or do we have to wait for a series of bombings and school shootings to get our attention again?

Ever heard of a cell phone, or am I supposed to guess he didn’t have one of those, a twenty something without a cell phone? Am I to guess he couldn’t wait for a bystander to call while he was in the safety of his vehicle? Or that he couldn’t drive away at a slow/normal speed and find a police officer? Dragging someone to her death for miles somehow doesn’t strike me as just accidental or something done at low speeds.
But all of this is something for investigators to piece together — your “friend” killed someone with a vehicle. This is hardly the first such “vehicular weapon” incident by a Muslim in the USA in the news — this is at least the 3rd such incident I have reported on in the span of a year’s time.
You criticize someone else for making “mistakes” in their investigation and yet you come here and instantly label the Anvil a “hate site”. Seems your own investigative powers are lacking.
