lgf: Pace University Koran Case - Email from Defendant

Little Green Footballs received an email from the defendant in the “Koran flushing” case that is making the headlines:

I’ve received an email from Stanislav Shmulevich, who has been arrested in New York for putting a Koran in a toilet at Pace University. And his case is even more outrageous than we first reported.

First, Shmulevich was arrested and jailed for 24 hours. Second, he’s not facing misdemeanor charges—he’s being charged with two felonies, criminal mischief and aggravated harassment.

Flushing the KoranFelonies. For putting a book in a toilet.

Third, his income is on a borderline that disqualifies him for a public defender, so he stands to suffer incredible financial hardship as well.

Fourth, his name and photograph were published in several newspapers in New York, and he and his mother were ambushed outside the court by reporters. In a case like this, clearly with the potential to enrage radical Muslims, this is so irresponsible of the media that it borders on criminal.

Do we still live in a country that values free speech? This case is pretty good evidence that we do not. Mr. Shmulevich is caught in a Kafkaesque nightmare right out of the Soviet Union, and it’s all happening at the demand of the Muslim Student Association and the Council on American Islamic Relations.

Stay tuned. This is not over.

Damn right it’s not over; this is just the tip of the Islamic iceberg and our Western Titanic seems to be steaming right for it.

Simone. Guessed as much,,and well done! Your secret is safe with me.

I confess I have posted at Bolt’s ‘blog many times also.
It’s pretty easy to pick all the JW and FH posters there :)

I don’t know what has gotten into Andrew. He has made a few comments that could have been disguised as sarcasm. Then I would also guess he is very aware of our anti-vilification laws also.

Maybe he is also hedging his bets pre-election?
As you can see, people are noticing the “new Andrew”.

OT again: I am glad sammer and zumba bumba haven’t posted as yet.Hope it stays that way.

Gramfan - the ‘Simone’ posting at Bolt’s blog is yours truly!

Speaking of Bolt, what do you suppose has got in to him of late? The way he’s coming at the Haneef case almost beggars belief.

@Tammi: Indeed. That is a very interesting point that Lord Crimson makes. I forwarded that link on to others in hopes that people might take a closer look that are closer to the sources involved.

Why are we so scared of offending Muslims?

Hell, that’s an easy one — Muslims kill people every single day in the name of their cult, Allah or Muhammad. Even their own family members.

No true religion behaves in this way in the modern world: not Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists et al.

The world is living in a massive denial of fear.

    Obviously I am not.

Here’s another interesting take by Hitchins who is a renowed atheist,so please take that into account before you get offended.

If there was some way we could all get our hands on a copy of the koran (I couldn’t actually bring myself to buy one), then I’d suggest we all start flushing korans down public toilets in support of this guy.

    Hi FoeHammer,

Here is an angle to the story I hadn’t seen yet. Let me know what you think.

Burning an American flag is ok-it’s free speech.

Flushing a Koran in a toilet is a felony.

We now live in Iran? :|

    So who’s running the US?

Must be the Muslim Student Association and the Council on American Islamic Relations.

When is “going too far” really going to mean “going too far”?

Okay, where is the ACLU and all the lawyers that worry so much about our rights being trampled? Do they only come out in outrage when it meets their leftist agenda? Surely not! This should be an outrage to every one of us. Please tell me where I can send a donation towards this young man’s defense fund.

This is awful… thanks for covering it too. One American in jail or charged for exercising his rights is too many! Yet we have seen an increase of these sorts of incidents in the pastfew weeks.

I don’t see artists jailed for blaspheming against Christianity… I don’t see hippies in an uproar over this- after all, weren’t they the supposed champions of freedom of expression by burning flags? hah.

Nobody should go to jail for doing anything to a quran, other than obeying it…
