WASHINGTON — The US Senate has called for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards to be officially designated a “foreign terrorist organisation,” a day after the House of Representatives passed a similar measure.

The Senate on Wednesday voted 76-22 for the non-binding amendment sponsored by Republican Jon Kyl and independent Joseph Lieberman to place the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, or Pasdaran, on the US terrorist blacklist.

You might expect that I would be happy about this move.

This is outrageously ridiculous. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards are to be treated as a separate “terrorist” organization? What does it take to declare war on an Islamic state that has been murdering Americans for decades and threatens to bring the civilized world into chaos ushered in with nuclear holocaust?

Don’t act like this is some sort of victory, folks. The very notion that parts of the Iranian government should be separated from the rest so that we might avoid an actual war with Iran is dangerously stupid.

We are so damn weak. The rich are no longer fit to lead and I’m getting hungrier by the day for change. Something’s gotta give.

It isn’t the voting that stinks here, but the fundamental idea behind the amendment. It is flawed at its core and stinks of more misguided thinking to me. I believe this is an attempt to avert an actual war with Iran and this means we may very well not take the steps necessary to destroy the nuclear facilities within the Iranian borders. Instead, we will get “policing” of one segment of the Iranian military and create pre-fabricated excuses for our worst enemies, the Iranian mullahs, and believe me, they will jump at the chance to act as if they have had no knowledge of the actions of this “terrorist organization” in their midst if it suits their purposes. If Stalin had thousands of his own soldiers murdered after returning from fighting Nazi Germany in order to preserve his vision of Communist order, do not think for a millisecond that the Islamic clergy that run Iran will not use every available excuse to continue to hide their intent. If this means giving over parts of their own military to the international community as “terrorists” then they most likely will — as long as the caveat is intact, the Islamists stay in power and war is not declared on Iran.

Ahmadinejad should have been arrested in NYC, and missiles sailed into nuclear facilities on the same day, if we had even an ounce of testosterone left in this U.S. government. Instead, we will eventually pay dearly for our continuing folly and short-sighted leadership.
