There is an interesting Jihad Watch thread this morning centered around McCain: US founded on Christian principles, shouldn’t have Muslim president.
GOP presidential candidate John McCain says America is better off with a Christian President and he doesn’t want a Muslim in the Oval Office.
“I admire the Islam. There’s a lot of good principles in it,” he said. “But I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles, personally, I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith.”
As you might predict, CAIR immediately has jumped on such statements and is attempting to pave the way for a Muslim U.S. President and more Muslim members of Congress. Read the New York Daily News article.
I had the following immediate response:
I would never vote for a Muslim in any office, on any level in the United States. Period.
Geez. It ain’t like my clarity is anything new…I have made it quite clear that we should not even vote for an ex-Muslim for the office of President, though I will admit that I do not hold that an ex-Muslim should be necessarily kept out of other office. This is all just plain common sense folks.
Jan. 30, 2007:
Is Barack Obama Ideologically Muslim?
Oh, and it’s also understanding where we come from as a nation and why things have worked up to this point to keep us free, which apparently too many Americans today are incapable of doing, or refuse to acknowledge. Nihilism runs wild….

McCain didn’t hold his ground very well.
McCain later clarified his remarks, saying, “I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and to defend our political values.”
This simply clarifies why I do not support him for President.
I have not endorsed a Presidential candidate yet, but I will this morning tell you this much. Out of all the current candidates we are only left with three serious choices: Huckabee, Thompson and Romney. I’m hopeful that Newt Gingrich might consider a VP spot down the road. Surprised that Rudy isn’t in that list? Don’t be. I have learned enough about Giuliani by this point to hold no real hope that he is the sort of individual that I want to run the United States. Perhaps I will get into that subject on another day in more depth.
This thread is now wide open to wild discussion, political or not.

McCain said what a lot of people believe. Pity that he backed down!
Not only will I never vote for a moslem for even dog catcher, I will never again visit Minnesota because they elected Ellison.
yeah Always on watch…in my opinion McCain picked up on this anti-Islamic attitude sweeping the U.S. with the average citizens and tried to score much needed publicity because his recent poll numbers show him falling dangerously behind Gulliani, Romney and Thompson. Too bad he couldn’t speak it from conviction of the heart, and it showed…he waffled when he needed to stand up to the backlash.
I believe the spiritual foundations of a nation cannot removed without destroying all that has been built on it first. No matter how much atheists, ACLU, Muslims rage…if our Constitution, our form of Government, the main influence of our laws, the majority of our citizens refuse to submit & surrender Judeo-Christian values in their ideology…the Republic will stand. The Fortress may show signs of conflict and be battered about, but the Republic will stand!
My convictions speak without any doubt that God [the biblical Deity…NOT “allah”] still has a specific purpose & destiny for the USA…and I’m only going to get louder in the face of this challenge from the babylonian parasitical murder cult [a.k.a. Islam]
X_dhimmi I live in the Minneapolis-St.Paul metro, and its tale of two worlds. Minneapolis proper is a extremely liberal stronghold…thats why Ellison was elected. A perfect example of the oddball love affair between the ultra leftwing hate America minions & and our no.1 enemy…Islam. Move farther out into the suburbs and political nightmare begins to wane and people begin ponder “what the???” is going on in that city. Trust me, get out in the country and there are many, many people who would shoot first, ask questions later when it comes to dealing with Sharia submission.
I’m one of them who happens to live in the Metro.
Soteria, I apologize for insulting the entire state of Minnesota. I know better. The Powerline guys are in Minnesota, I believe.
You’re on the front lines there. Where I live is just as you describe your suburbs (will never submit to sharia and very fond of their guns!). However, I find my neighbors are so deeply sunk into the Dem party (lots of union representation here) and never make the connection that supporting liberal politicians, in effect, supports the islamic movement in this nation and overseas. It’s discouraging.
As a matter of fact, Ohio’s governor, Ted Strickland, received the majority of votes in my county in the last election because (1) he’s a dem, and (2) he was here a couple of times during the last union strike and pontificated about how Big Business is trying to bust the unions. So, he is elected, and what does he do? He gives the keynote speech at the Ohio chapter of CAIR’s annual banquet. Grrrr.
I understood the point you made about Ellison and totally agree with having him in a position of authority is a awefully deceptive poison to society. His subtle involvement with the “flying Imams” incident at the Intl. airport here has been mostly ignored. The extreme left wing element within the inner metro is a utter embarrassment to the entirety of the state. You ought to see the steady stream of rhetoric that flows from this crowd. Its like getting a fulltime RSS of Rosie O’Donnell.
