Open thread on a tense Sunday

It’s September 9th. Protests are starting at various points on the globe today and moving straight through to September 11th. It should be a happier world than it is, but again and again we are reminded that the innocence is gone — by Islamists, Anarchists, Russians and other pains in the ass.

I updated another article with a podcast a few days ago but neglected to announce it on a podcast Sunday. It’s not showing up in the sidebar player due to some sort of RSS bug, so I’ll mention it again for those that may have missed it.

For those that might be attending any protests or rallies this week, please be safe. This thread is now open to free-for-all discussion.

Here’s a question for you all to ponder: Is the black dye-job to Osama bin Laden’s beard itself a signal to Al Qaeda agents to initiate planned attacks?

Bin Laden taking on a little western vanity? Perhaps.

I think it is likely a signal of some sort.

Osama is doing like the leaders of mujahideen for centuries. They were into dying their beards as a symbol of virility and strength.
