KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Taliban militants hanged a teenager in southern Afghanistan because he had U.S. money in his pocket, and they stuffed five $1 bills in his mouth as a warning to others not to use dollars, police said Monday. Taliban militants elsewhere killed eight police.
The 15-year-old boy was hanged from a tree on Sunday in Helmand, the most violent province in the country and the world’s No. 1 poppy-growing region.
“The Taliban warned villagers that they would face the same punishment if they were caught with dollars,” said Wali Mohammad, the district police chief in Sangin.
Dollars are commonly used in Afghanistan alongside the afghani, the local currency, although the U.S. currency is more commonly seen in larger cities where international organizations are found.
Militants often justify their attacks and executions as a response to U.S. meddling in Afghan affairs.
In Sangin on Saturday, the Taliban shot and killed another man who had sought farm assistance and seeds from an international aid program, Mohammad said. The militants accused him of being a spy.

On a recent doco I saw Afghan women who had poured kerosene on themselves to escape forced marriages. It was enough to make one weep.
These women and the children deserve better.I don’t know how this is ever going to happen. The muslim world has relegated 50% of itself into oblivion by treating its women this way.
Imagine any society without the input of its women? Ghastly!

Unfortunately human nature being what it is, requires periodic suffering due to get it back on a heading towards the real goals. Humans are weak, myopic and self centered. We have to pay over and over again for this.
But we aren’t going away as a civilization and neither are the things we’ve achieved. It’s the Islamic culture that will be destroyed or severely damaged at a great cost in terms of lives and treasure. They will have it no other way. Islam seems strong but is brittle and outmatched in every aspect except the will to power. Even that will change. I hear and see people understanding the nature of the threat better all the time all around me. When the Islamic world does ‘the big thing’ and the mental line is crossed ( and it will happen - Islam is Hubris defined and can’t help itself ) it will be the end of Islam as we know it. Something Wicked This Way Comes and it won’t be denied.
But it will be destroyed.
Any attempt at instituting the NAU will result in a true division of the current Union. I can promise that.
