Eye On The World has brought an interesting article to light this morning: Italy: Muslims may drop proposed mosque in northern town. It would seem that not all of Europe is ready to quietly give into Sharia Creep. I am not surprised that one of the toughest bastions of hope for freedom and common sense remains embodied in the nation of Italy.
Read the details.

Perhaps Italy is not as dhimmi as others?
I wonder what the Islamic situation is in Italy. Anyone know?
Sounder,
I think that Italy has its fair share of problems with Muslims. Have you read Oriana Fallaci?
Anyway, this display of anti-dhimmitude is a welcome bit of news in a swamp of discouragement.
Europe is backed into a corner in many respects, but the people there have awakened. Now, how to get the leaders to do something?
Always On Watch, I have not read her work yet, but I did find this:
Sounder,
I agree with Always On Watch’s assessment of Fallaci. It was one of the first books I read on this subject. Worth it, but after all this ‘blogging you would probably have the gist of it by now.
I hope the Italians do something about it. In a worst case scenario they have an awful lot to lose if we look at what the Taliban did to the statues of Buddha.
Italy has about 75% of the greatest art the west has produced: I am lucky as I have seen a good deal of it. Since I am a Florentine by birth I just hope they all come together and defend their achievements: not just in art/architecture, but so many other areas as well.
Sounder, I would have given you a hundred +’s for that quote about Fallaci - if I could! Re-reading that is a great way to start my morning!
Years ago, I read at Frontpagemag.com that
Orianna published a “trilogy” of books examining the threat of jihad in detail: The Rage and the Pride, The Force of Reason, and Se Entrevista a Si Misma: El Apocalipsis [The Apocalypse].
Orianna’s first two books in this trilogy were proved to be extraordinarily satisfying reads, so I hope the third book, “The Apocalypse” is translated soon.
As another example of her work . . .here is her description of the wonders of tolerance in Al Andalus (pg 37 of The Force of Reason):
FH, this is off this topic but:
Realists should go read this article at Gates of Vienna
NO LEFTIES, it could be hazardous to your health.
Fallaci could really turn a phrase, couldn’t she?
I recall her use of “sons of Allah” in her The Rage and the Pride.
That was one lady who lived by “I will not submit.” Long live that spirit!
