I had a feeling it would happen in South Carolina: Fred Thompson came alive. All this talk since January 1st about Thompson not “wanting” the Presidency enough was obviously aimed at knocking him out of the race early, but I believe all the cheering for Fred during the Republican Debate in South Carolina on January 10th now makes it clear that he’s not going out easily or prematurely.
Fred Thompson took Mike Huckabee to task on his basic policies by showing very clearly that Governor Huckabee’s liberal foreign policy flies in the face of many of the core values of Ronald Reagan. Republicans love to compare themselves to Reagan because he was the most successful and forward thinking President that most of us have witnessed in our lifetimes. But all these candidates should beware of being too gratuitous with such name-dropping: Ronald Reagan is a tough act to follow.
Yet, it wasn’t the target of Fred’s ire early in the debate that really mattered to me nearly as much as the fact that Fred Thompson has the courage to step up and criticize, quite correctly, any of those candidates in the debate that thus far have ridden the wave of public opinion higher than he has. After all, they are riding higher for many of the wrong reasons. Fred Thompson should be riding that wave after South Carolina. Fred Thompson is the best man for the job of President of the United States of America that is currently in this race.
So, today I am making my stance official, finally. I am stating plainly that I endorse Fred Thompson for President of the United States of America.
There are many fundamental reasons why I like Fred Thompson. He is a proven statesman. He is unwavering in his core beliefs. He is unafraid to be himself and to stand his ground when confronted. He is unafraid to tell interviewers when they are asking lowbrow questions. He is unafraid to stand up and be heard and demand the time to state his case, much as he did during the South Carolina debate.
These attributes are those of a true leader, not just someone that is pantomiming one.
Fred Thompson understands foreign policy far better than a Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul. I’d wager he has a better understanding of the globe than even John McCain, who is so often given credit for outstanding foreign policy knowledge. One must only listen to a few of Fred Thompson’s online podcasts to get a clear and defined understanding of just how deeply he roots out the truth and how much wisdom he has accumulated during his years serving this nation.
This country is heading for very rough waters this year and into 2009 and well beyond. We had better be prepared to elect a man like Fred Thompson to steer the boat clear of the rocky shoals. The office of the Presidency is too often looked at during election times as a seat of power that sways domestic policy, but this is quite clearly not its chief role. The U.S. President is looked to by foreign powers as the world leader and this is his most critical role in the modern world. We can not, therefore, put a man or woman into the role of President that does not have a clear and reasoned view of the world and what threats we face. I firmly believe that Fred Thompson understands what faces us as a nation and a people, and that he has the capacity to learn more about the things that he may, as of this moment, not yet be fully aware of.
Please support Fred Thompson for President.
Thank you.

My meager attempt at humor. Really, there is nothing amusing about this denial of service.
Relieved to see you are back!
Regarding Thompson’s candidacy . . .yes, I am leaning in his direction but cannot fully endorse him yet. Sadly, I am still bewildered that Fred! would maintain Spencer Abraham in any capacity in his campaign. He remains too close for comfort at this point.
I’m fed up with the infiltration/invitation of/to muhammedan sympathizers at every level of government - most recently discussed names include Hesham Islam via Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, Grover Norquist (a) (b) (c), Nada Nadim Prouty
In an ideal world we would have qualified, untainted candidates to choose from. Just as in the previous presidential election cycle, the unfortunate choice remains between the devil we know and the devil we hate.
So happy to see your site up again. It is obvious you are being targeted in some way. This has been going on for 3-4 days. I mentioned it over at Jihad Watch. I have tried contacting your “host” to ask what’s up with all this, and I tried contacting you but got the wrong Foehammer. Gee, did I ever get a wrong number! I took some abuse from that xbot geek! I didn’t respond, I didn’t want his momma to hear him screaming from the basement, no need to upset his game playing! I say xbot geek only because he was so proud of it! Otherwise he can waste his life anyway he sees fit.
On a positive note, I will certainly give Fred Thompson more scrutiny. I have liked him all along, just didn’t think he wanted anything more than vice-president, at most. Does he still have Spencer Abraham on board? That was an ongoing problem for me. Still, I will look at Thompson again. The clock is ticking, someone has to address the issues head on, dead on, to make me very, very happy. If someone doesn’t DO something soon I see an unbeatable Hillary/Obama or a Obama/Hillary ticket, and that sends shivers up and down my spine.
IMO Fred is surging at a very good time for his campaign if he did it during the states that were already leaning towards other candidates it would be hard to maintain momentum… waiting until now in what amounts to his kind of stomping grounds for a big push might just be political genius.
Glad to see you back, hope it lasts. We are behind Fred 100%
I am humbled by the torrent of support I have received in the past 48 hours.
I will continue soldiering on and simply do the best that I can under the continually shifting circumstances surrounding this blog.
Good to see you back. I like Thompson too. Is there not a work around for hosting problems?
See 1389’s site, I am not the only one to advocate printing the Koran on bathroom tissue. That gentleman in Berlin succeeded.
I would enjoy thoroughly the opportunity to caricature Islam and its many cultural icons.
Foehammer, the absence of your voice on the net makes us all aware of a deadening silence. Your natural volume is awesome. The cause you serve is just and, whether or not you are aware, crucial to the fight for the preservation of Western Civilization. Never doubt your value here to the education of many, many people.
I, too, find Fred the best in the Republican field. Can he get on the ticket? Maybe.
GWB has done a lot of damage to the Republican Party. I know a great many lifelong Republicans who are disgusted with him and feel that he is “A Trojan Horse.”
No doubt that Thompson is the clearest and most effective candidate when it comes to countering Jihad. He says things in a funny & effective way. Being European, I have no influence anyway, but as Robert Spencer has noted, the candidates range from really bad (all Democrats) to so-so on understanding Jihad. Thompson is the exception.
I hope you can keep the blog running. Visitor numbers and bandwidth usage shouldn’t be excessive for this kind of political blog. If they are, you should look into a different kind of Denial of Service attack:
That your opponent simply may be spidering your site repeatedly in order to drain you ISP’s resources. Getting all evidence on the table should help identify the problem. If it turns out that certain IP addresses suck up loads of data, you should have those banned. They’ll see that FH is unavailable and rejoice. The rest of us will see that FH *is* available, and rejoice as well. Best of both worlds
Foehammer’s Anvil website taken down - AGAIN!
We are running one of our little campaigns to get them to restore access to your blog. I have contact information and rolling updates at the above link. Feel free to copy and paste.
Good luck!

The Anvil is back online but I do not know how long this will last. My hosting company is continuing to claim that my site is eating resources at an inordinate rate and I see no evidence of this on my end. I am at their mercy and I no longer have the patience to tackle the technical side of this any deeper than I have.
Do not panic if the Anvil goes off-line again; in fact, expect it.
After watching the debates I’m going with Fred.
McCain and Rudy are pretty much RINOs and Romney and Huck are show but little or no substance, and they are certainly weak on fiscal conservatism. Ron Paul is.well… Ron Paul…
Fred’s proposals and speeches talk of what the founders intended for the most part. He really seems to get it, unlike the others in this race.
Great analysis. Fred is the only candidate who can stand on his record without having to explain it away. His campaign seems to have been rejuvenated a bit. Everyone who supports him should go to Fred 08 and donate or volunteer to help get his message to the voters of SC and FL.
Glad to see you back, Foehammer. I too could not get through for some days.
I am also for Fred. I believe that there will be another attack by jihadists after the elections, probably in 2009. They understand the government is in disarray during a change of administration, and it follows the WTC attacks in 1993 and 2001. I want someone who comprehends what the U.S. and world is up against.
Well done! I too am pulling for Fred Thompson. With the way the world is today, along with the threats of tomorrow, this election is not the one to roll the dice and gamble on who MIGHT be the right choice to lead us over the next four to eight years. We need to play the percentages and go with the man (sorry Hillary) who’s been around the block a few times and has the knowledge, temperment and consistent ideas to lead the country.
