[...] HE then notes Fred’s biggest “problem”: he’s not a professional pol. Then again, neither was George Washington (unlike, say, Thomas Jefferson, who gave it a really good if not successful shot). They quote El Rushbo, who noted earlier that television “doesn’t reward depth”, but one-liners and “cutesyisms” (read: Hucksterisms) instead. That said, as I’ve pointed out regarding Fred time and again, Rush and Human Events both agree it’s clear that Fred thinks deeply and considerately about many things, especially the many troubles piling up at America’s door. This is a great endorsement to have, I must say. Human Events? That trumps National Review. Also endorsing Fred is Foehammer. He is a proven statesman. He is unwavering in his core beliefs. He is unafraid to be himself and to stand his ground when confronted. He is unafraid to tell interviewers when they are asking lowbrow questions. He is unafraid to stand up and be heard and demand the time to state his case, much as he did during the South Carolina debate. These attributes are those of a true leader, not just someone that is pantomiming one.Fred Thompson understands foreign policy far better than a Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul. I’d wager he has a better understanding of the globe than even John McCain, who is so often given credit for outstanding foreign policy knowledge. One must only listen to a few of Fred Thompson’s online podcasts to get a clear and defined understanding of just how deeply he roots out the truth and how much wisdom he has accumulated during his years serving this nation. This country is heading for very rough waters this year and into 2009 and well beyond. We had better be prepared to elect a man like Fred Thompson to steer the boat clear of the rocky shoals. The office of the Presidency is too often looked at during election times as a seat of power that sways domestic policy, but this is quite clearly not its chief role. The U.S. President is looked to by foreign powers as the world leader and this is its most critical role in the modern world. We can not, therefore, put a man or woman into the role of President that does not have a clear and reasoned view of the world and what threats we face. I firmly believe that Fred Thompson understands what faces us as a nation and a people, and that he has the capacity to learn more about the things that he may, as of this moment, not yet be fully aware of.
I don't know who to support now that Thompson is out. Ron Paul? I don't believe that his whiny demeanor would ever be taken seriously by other world leaders (besides-he's NOT a conservative). I doubt Guiliani can win at this point. That leaves Romney, Huck, and McCain. I'm just not feeling it with any of those guys.

I don't kid myself that it will make any difference in the outcome, but for general principle, I'm with those that are promoting Thompson as a write-in on Super Tuesday.

I'm still with Fred.

I have been observing the weather for half a century and I have to agree with Mr. Hartman, we are getting colder. Now that leftists have declared that we are warming I think that seals the deal they are never right so get ready for an ice age. I have said for years that the number one and two contributors to Earths temperature are the Sun and the Mantle. The Sun, which we recently probed and scientists were heard to say, we saw many things that we had believed impossible. They not long ago discovered that Yellowstone is a giant super volcano, they recently found out that a long suspected dead fault line off the northern pacific coast is in fact very alive. I don’t hate the Earth but I expect scientists to have all the facts and since they are constantly being taken back to school I am very skeptical. Also, let me know when China, India, and Russia are on board, don’t waste time trying to convince islamofascists, they love death so they are no doubt pro global warming/cooling, as long as people die they are for it. If you really want something to worry about, how about Gamma Ray Bursts? They occur in space everyday and one in our area means the end, yep, CO2 included.

Mr Clausen,

I don't believe in the CO2 saga, for the reasons given in my earlier mail. No way it is ever going to flood anything. And we're cooling down again already...

I do believe in nuclear energy, even the 'traditional' variety, as the 'waste'can be recycled for about 95%. But the environmental mob is not going to allow it. I mean, they've been advocating 'alternative energy' for decades now, but in California the tidal generators planned were not allowed, and along the Gulf of Mexico a windmill park has been blocked (windmills are a bad idea for a number of reasons, but hey...). The environment mob is against humanity. As long as they get to direct the tune, we are in trouble.

IMHO, the best proof that the CO2 saga is a hoax is that the totally CO2-free alternative, nuclear energy, is not to be considered an option. You'd think that if the world's on the brink of disaster, any solution would be welcomed. CO2 is just an excuse for taxation. The only drawback to nuclear for me is the military potential. Well, tough, any technology can be abused for destructive purposes. Having said that, it would be nice if Islamic countries didn't get it. Unfortunately, Pakistan already has, with western help as well...

Hartman, CO2 just might turn out to be really, awfully important. As in having several capitals of the world drowned, for good.

That does not mean we should let the liberals get away with a powergrab over the issue. What we need is solutions, real practical solutions that will permit us to break the oil habit and have a sustainable energy supply for the coming generations.

Nuclear power has been mentioned often as a somewhat controversial alternative. I've studied the Chernobyl disaster in quite some detail, and am completely convinced (technical details too many to list here) that any modern nuclear power plant can not suffer a similar fate. That, however, is not convincing many sceptics who return with the trickier question "What about the waste? There's no solution yet!"

Now, there exists a solution for the waste. The key to making it decay to non-radioactive substances is to expose it to intense alpha radiation, as can be produced by this unusual variation of a fusion reactor:

<a href="http://www.emc2fusion.org/" rel="nofollow">ECM2Fusion.org</a>

Additionally, this reactor type costs a moderate $ 200 million to build, and it converts fusion energy into electricity without needing the extra complication of a steam turbine.

Yes, this *is* a solution to the energy supply problem. They just need funding to be able to build a full scale version of the reactor. And compared to the cost of ITER and other research projects, this one ought to be tried out as fast as possible.

I rest my case that paying attention to actual issues is useful, and encourage others to spread the suggestion to research this interesting energy source. Google has a great lecture up as a video, too - you'll find the link right on the front page of EMC2Fusion.org

@Adrian2514
Caring about te environment is the sensible thing to do, if only out of good old plain rational self-interest. Getting religious about it is not. Chernobyl will show you that nature is much more capable of taking care of itself than man ever will be. Man can get extinct, nature will recover.

Carbon is irrelevant, except in the undisclosed, protected, experimental and never proven models of Hansen et al. In Real Life carbon has always followed temperature. If you take into account that CO2 is a whole massive 0.03% percent of our atmosphere, what are the chances that even doubling it is going to wipe out the earth?

The world is an ever changing ecosystem, and man better adapt to it. Nature is boss, thinking man is is sheer arrogance. CO2 is just a way to extort more money from the average hard working Joe Bloggs: can you spell TAXATION? America refused (wisely) to sign Kyoto, yet America had the least increase in CO2 (if that's a reference for sustainability) compared to the Kyoto holier-than-thou signers.

That should get some people thinking about claims, truth and political agendas...
