Hanged or Hanging In?

For the better part of two months now, the Anvil has been sputtering and gagging for air. The server has been a nightmare of slow-motion and, yes, it drives me crazy. I feel like apologizing each day to my readers for the condition of the hosting here.

However, chins up, gentle readers. I feel not so much as a blogger being hanged, as I do one that is about to find new footing on fresh ground. The next couple of weeks will spell big personal changes for me one way or another, and if things go my way, then I will not only eventually salvage the work here at the Anvil, but I will finally launch the Anvil on a fully dedicated server. It’s going to be touch and go for awhile and I can’t promise frequent updates in the interim, but hang in there, because at least the potential for vast and overdue improvements to the Anvil, long hoped for, is finally staring me in the face.

I’m still debating whether to move out of the country if Obama gets elected President…and I’m not much happier about McCain. The best choice left for the nation right now would be Huckabee, but since I’m convinced the elites have already crowned McCain King of the USA (and they started oiling the ‘machine’ way back in June of 2007), it’s really against the odds for any other Republican contender.

Most of us are still thirsting for “something completely different” in U.S. politics, but you might at least still have me breathing fire on the Blogosphere later this year. That’s about the best consolation prize that I can offer hope for right at this moment.

Blog For A Year Contest Ends

The Blog for a Year contest has ended. I didn’t win, but I’m quite proud of how many votes I received in the short time that I took part. The ratio of votes versus views of my profile was an unbelievable 1:2.76!

The winner was a blogger that goes by the name Absolutely True. It just goes to show you that it’s hard to compete with ‘fluff’ when you’re dealing in ‘bad news.’

Not Quite Anti-Jihad Burnout

Superman's first appearanceI didn’t make a post yesterday, but I did re-organize the Anvil a bit more; hopefully for the better. And the day before that I worked almost all day and created a mirror site of the Anvil at Foehammer.com for safe-keeping of future articles that I post here, and also to accommodate those readers on slow connections. It’s also Digg-able, unlike Foehammer.net itself. You can just call it Foehammer, or how I affectionately like to refer to it, Foehammer Lite.

Help Foehammer Get Paid to Blog for a Year

Firefox 2

This won’t cost you a dime, but could actually allow me to blog for another year without having to worry about my mortgage. Just the very idea of that makes me giddy like a schoolgirl — err, like a — oh, never-mind. It just makes me giddy, damnit!
:jittery_tb:

At the same time, clicking the following orange button doesn’t just give you the opportunity to help me reach financial Nirvana for a year, but it can also help promote my work at the Anvil to more new readers:

Digg and Blogger banning more anti-jihad related sites

Digg vs AnvilWell, in the past twenty minutes I received not one but two emails from separate bloggers informing me that Digg and Blogger have both seen fit to label them as “spam” and ban them in their own way. A Blogger ban is the most serious since it disables a site almost entirely (i.e. cannot post), as was the case for 18 hours most recently with Gates of Vienna.

Anvil Alerts for July 2007

I have several ideas in front of me for great articles to write, but I’m simply not up to the task today to publish any of them. Sometimes I just need a breather.

But I don’t want to let many days go by where I don’t post something worth reading here at the Anvil, so with the number of things I’m being alerted to via email, Twitter, phone and comments, I feel I should just put the links here in a concise format for July 2007 and update when necessary.

Gates of Vienna blocked by Blogger

Digg vs AnvilCensorship of the Anti-Jihad Blogosphere continues from on-high. A cross-posting of Gates of Vienna blocked by Blogger follows, and you will probably not be surprised who warned GoV of such a possibility:

Here’s a message GoV’s Baron Bodissey left in the comments to his latest post on GoV:

————————————————
I just attempted to post at Gates of Vienna, and was told by an automatic message that our blog is suspected of being a spam blog, and has been blocked by Blogger.

Smilies

Well, just because even a blogger like me needs an injection of levity as part of his day (to keep sane), I’ve taken extra steps and implemented some fun changes to the comments box. Now you can add quicktag edits with the click of a few buttons instead of having to manually type in code. I’ve wanted that functionality here on the Anvil for a long time and I finally hacked together some code to make it happen.

Between a Rock and a Good Place

I need you.Well, I can’t honestly say I ever really believed this would happen. I mean, I’m just one guy with a blog amid over 100,000 rivals, literally. But as of tonight I received an email for the 3rd time this month informing me that my usage limits on my shared server are far over the allowed range. The numbers aren’t worth posting here because they are technical and even too abstract for me to make any sense of (CPU usage, memory limits, etc.). Suffice it to say, I’m between “a rock and a good place”, because I’m so happy that I’m seeing an average of over 350 unique hits per day from last week and will undoubtedly see somewhere around double that from this week, if not triple. But the reality is this means I can not stay on a cheaper shared server.

Round 3: Australian Press Council backs Gavin King, accuses blogger Sheik Yer’Mami of ‘no analogous consideration for the safety of the journalist ‘

Australian moonbat Bryan Law and friends
Ding! It’s Round 3 of Sheik Yer’Mami vs journalist Gavin King, and this time it seems the head of the Australian Press Council is without the will to punish King, but he’s more than ready to be accusatory in his mailed remarks to the Sheik. But he’s not accusing Gavin King –
Winds Of Jihad: Australian Press Council backs Gavin King, accuses Blogger of no analogous consideration for the safety of the journalist by Sheik yer’mami

Here’s a blurb from the above link to Sheik Yer’Mami’s full article on the most recent details:

Sheik Yer’Mami story finally getting deserved coverage

Dhimmi Watch: Australian reporter says Islam “not a threat to world peace,” reveals identity of anti-jihad blogger, calls his blog a “hate site”

Better late than never. I’m hopeful that this latest exposure at the sister site to Jihad Watch will alert enough people to Sheik’s dilemma that something gets done for justice Down Under — for a non-Muslim for a change. Perhaps my earlier reports here at the Anvil played some part in getting the word to trickle down (or should I say wander up), but more I cannot say or guess.

Foehammer: Pro Blogger

It’s been two and a half years now since I first founded Foehammer’s Anvil where most bloggers begin — at Blogger/Blogspot.com. And it was time for a change. It was time for me to get serious.

Right around Christmas 2006 it hit me — that I couldn’t just keep fooling myself, that my passion for this subject matter was too intense, that I needed to face the facts that I wasn’t ever going to run away from the truth like so many people do, and that I was blessed with the abilities to do something to help. So, I felt the tug of obligation and duty and love of country. And I’ve responded.
