When corporate greed goes too far (hat-tip: Glugzy):
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - The distillers of Sweden’s Absolut vodka have withdrawn an advertisement run in Mexico that angered many U.S. citizens by idealizing an early 19th century map showing chunks of the United States as Mexican.
The billboard ad has the slogan “In an Absolut World” slapped over a pre-1848 map showing California, Arizona and other U.S. states as Mexican territory. Those states were carved out of what had been Mexican lands until that year.
I was just brewing my coffee and decided to turn on FOX & Friends. Geraldo Rivera was on promoting his new book. Then the talk turned quickly to immigration. I couldn’t help but notice that, as has become all too-frequent, the phrase “illegal immigration” was not in use. Disturbing.
More disturbing though was the attitude of Geraldo Rivera, an attitude that I have witnessed several times on his part in recent memory. Geraldo, obviously an Hispanic-American, says that most Americans are “overreacting” to the “immigration problem.” This irritates me to no end. Overreacting? Geraldo you should be careful — your cultural-bias is showing like an old lady’s slip.
Michelle Malkin has the inside scoop from on the Hill about this damn amnesty bill that won’t die: Update- Senators to Bush: Enforce the laws first
President Bush puts more energy into opening the floodgates to Mexico than he does into securing the United States against illegal immigrants and Islamists. I strongly suggest you back off, Mr. Bush, and do something about the border problems — for real this time — and then come back to Congress after the break with something that actually addresses the very dire concerns of us, the legal citizens of the United States. Or don’t we count anymore, George? Or should I say, we won’t count if another 40 million Mexicans (and other foreigners) swarm across the border in the next five years as a result of amnesty giving the green light means “GO!” signal?

Cliff Kincaid of the AIM Report (hat-tip: Sheila) makes some extremely good points about President Bush’s recent trip to Albania (70% Muslim) and the mess his presidency is making of our fight on “terrorism” by constantly appeasing Muslims, granting them new states, contracts and treaties and ignoring their growth influx right here in the USA. His policies on Mexico are even worse. It all reminds me once again why the 2008 elections can’t come soon enough:
Dismembering Serbia
Did I get your attention with that title? I hope so. I’m convinced that more than 50% of our U.S. Senators need to be ousted from office in the next elections, and passing this Immigration Bill just proves it. Do they have no conscience? Do they think that all Americans are blind and stupid? They are issuing in, or attempting at least, since thankfully this isn’t quite over yet — they are attempting to issue in a change to this nation that will manifest so quickly it will be like nothing the United States has undergone.
You want to protect some portion of this world from the Islamic terror menace and the Mexican invasion? I have the simple solution:
1) Remove Constitutional protections of religious practice with regards to Islam with a new amendment.

The President has finally decided to send troops to the border, but I’m hesitant to get all giddy quite yet. I wouldn’t be suprised if this wasn’t just a move to appease worries temporarily and then push the current bills through the Congress while the attention of the American people is diverted.
And, of course, el Presidente Fox can only whine. Never a worry about what’s best for the United States or Mexican and American relations. Oh, no. He’s worried that his drug exports might slow down or be impeded altogether for a few days.
I have known for quite some time now that the border problems with Mexico are far worse than just an illegal Hispanic immigration. Orchard picking is not a threat, but the hidden cells of Al-Qaeda that come in with the workers is something else altogether. Recently, the FBI finally declared pointedly before Congress that this influx of terrorists has been going on. From an AP report:
WASHINGTON (AP) - FBI Director Robert Mueller told Congress on Tuesday that people from countries with ties to al-Qaida have crossed into the United States from Mexico, using false identities.
This might sound like science-fiction, but considering how the United States has neglected its borders over the past century, it’s probably about time that we started pulling out the stops. From Wired News:
The border patrol has decided to go nuclear against those who want to sneak barrels of mustard gas, bales of marijuana or bundles of bucks into the country.
Starting early next week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP, agents will start testing a nuclear scanning device, called a Pulsed Fast Neutron Analysis system (PDF), that will show a border agent the molecular construction of all materials in an 18-wheeler without the agent having to open the truck
